In this session, I demonstrated how to transfer the draped pieces from the dress form to create a pattern. I carefully removed the front and back draped pieces, laid them flat, and marked the important lines and darts to prepare for transferring to paper.
This crucial step involves removing the draped fabric from the dress form, laying it flat without stretching, and tracing the key lines and markings to create a pattern for cutting the final fabric pieces.
Lesson Steps:
- Carefully remove the front and back draped pieces from the dress form
- Lay the pieces flat, being cautious not to stretch the fabric
- Trace over the existing pencil markings to make them more visible
- Mark the center back line, darts, bust line, and other key lines with dotted lines
- For the front piece, mark the center front line (cut on the bias), side seams, waist, armholes, and cowl neckline
- Add about 1-2 inches past the cowl neckline break point, rounding off the pattern
- Transfer all marked lines accurately onto pattern paper to create the final pattern pieces
