In this session, I demonstrated how to transfer the draped skirt muslin piece onto a dotted pattern paper. The skirt is made from a single piece of fabric with just one seam at the center back, requiring a wide width of around 55 inches.

I laid the draped skirt muslin on the dotted paper and traced the outline using a tracing wheel. I marked important details like the center front, side seams, center back, and fold lines. For the draped front piece, I freehand drew the lines first before tracing over them. I also drew the hemline freehand initially. After getting all the lines transferred, I added crucial details like the red cross-grain line for the first sewing step and seam allowances.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin the draped muslin skirt piece onto the dotted pattern paper
  • Use a tracing wheel to trace the waistline, center front, side seams, center back, and fold lines
  • For the draped front piece, freehand draw the lines first before tracing over them
  • Draw the hemline freehand initially, then trace over it
  • Add important markings like the red cross-grain line (Step 1 sewing line)
  • Add seam allowances (I use 1cm) all around
  • Notch the center front, side seams, zipper area, and any other crucial points
  • The pattern is now ready to be cut out
