In this session, I taught how to drape the back piece of the Amanda jacket.

I demonstrated pinning the muslin at the center back, allowing enough height for it to roll over the shoulder. I explained different techniques to achieve a fitted or relaxed back look by manipulating the straight grain line.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pinned the muslin at the center back, allowing 2-3 inches height for the shoulder
  • For a relaxed back, kept the center back line straight and pinned inside the style line
  • For a fitted back, pulled and shaped the muslin along the style line, allowing the grain line to curve
  • Created darts at the neck to remove excess fabric and achieve a clean armhole
  • Marked all necessary lines like style lines, waistline, bust line, armholes on the muslin
  • Laid the side panel piece flat on the side seam along the straight grain
  • Pinned the side panel at the front and back style lines, leaving ease
  • Added style lines, armholes, waistline and other markings on the side panel
