In this session, I taught how to prepare the muslin fabric and drape the front piece of the Amanda jacket.

I demonstrated two different styles – a more draped, relaxed front and a slimmer, fitted front.

I showed the steps to drape the front muslin on the dress form, creating the neckline and marking key lines like center front, bust points, and waistline. Then I draped the excess fabric into a relaxed front drape style. Alternatively, I created a slimmer fitted look by straightening the bust area and adding a small armhole dart.

Lesson Steps:

  • Prepared a large muslin piece and cut open the center front
  • Pinned muslin at center front, shoulders, and created neckline shaping
  • Marked style lines like center front, bust points, waistline, etc.
  • For draped front: Pinned excess fabric into a front drape at waist
  • For fitted front: Straightened bust area and added a small armhole dart
  • Marked the two different front drape styles with contrasting pencils
