In this session, I taught about different finishing techniques for the Amanda jacket project.

I demonstrated three sample finishes – Hong Kong seam, bias binding, and a raw edge finish – and evaluated their suitability for the boucle fabric and design.

I showed how the Hong Kong seam and bias binding provide a clean, professional finish, while the raw edge technique offers a more artistic, textured look. I explained that the choice depends on the desired drape, design elements, and overall aesthetic.

Lesson Steps:

  • Demonstrated Hong Kong seam finish on a sample
  • Showed bias binding finish on hem and edges
  • Presented raw edge finish with controlled raw edges
  • Evaluated pros and cons of each technique for the boucle fabric
  • Explained the decision process for finalizing finishes on the actual jacket
  • Noted that a combination of techniques may be used for different sections
