In this session, I taught different techniques for finishing the seams of the boucle fabric jacket, as the fabric is prone to shedding threads.

I demonstrated three methods to securely enclose the raw edges.

I showed samples of seam finishings suitable for the boucle fabric, including a decorative straight stitch, binding the raw edges with stitching close to the seamline, and leaving intentionally raw edges for an edgy look. The goal was to contain the fabric’s shedding while maintaining a soft, unstructured finish.

Lesson Steps:

  • Straight stitch 1cm from seam, then topstitch close to secure threads
  • Trim any loose threads close to the stitching line
  • Press for a flatter or more textured look as desired
  • For raw edges, stitch close to seamline without trimming threads
  • Optionally leave some edges intentionally raw for an edgier aesthetic
  • Keep inside seams neatly trimmed, but consider raw exterior edges
