In this session, I taught how to sew pieces together and cover raw seams with bias binding.

I demonstrated using a thin black fabric as the base and a red bias tape on top.

I showed how to attach the bias tape neatly to the seam allowance, fold it over to encase the raw edge, and stitch it down close to the fold for a tailored finish. This technique creates a slim, clean edge finish suitable for unlined jackets or edges.

Lesson Steps:

  • Trim seam allowance to reduce bulk if needed
  • Align bias tape close to raw edge, not stretching it too much
  • Fold bias tape over raw edge and pin in place
  • Press bias tape flat over the folded edge
  • Optionally, fold bias tape again to fully encase raw edge
  • Stitch-in-the-ditch close to the fold to catch bias tape
  • Press finished bias bound edge for a crisp look
