In this session, I taught how to tape the design lines for the Amanda draped jacket on a dress form.

I started by adding reference lines like center front, waistline, and bust points which will help transfer the draped pieces to the pattern later.

I demonstrated taping the style lines – the draped collar neckline, the front panel extending out from center front, the angled hemline hitting at different lengths, and the side panel piece. I also explained measuring the armhole and potentially widening it for ease.

Lesson Steps:

  • Add a bust bridge to create a straight line across the bust area
  • Tape the draped collar neckline from center front up and around
  • Tape the angled front hemline hitting lower at center front
  • Tape the side panel piece angling out from the side seam
  • Measure and tape an adjusted wider armhole if needed
  • Mark any potential back neck dart
  • Determine if a front bust dart is needed based on the dress form shape
  • Measure the lengths and widths needed to cut muslin pieces, adding extra for ease
