In this lesson, I taught how to draft an asymmetric skirt pattern by modifying an existing skirt block. I demonstrated shortening the skirt length, dropping the waistline, and creating an asymmetric flare on one side of the skirt.
I showed how to copy a fitted skirt block onto paper, shorten the length, drop the waistline, and create an asymmetric flare on one side. This new pattern will be used as the base for drafting an asymmetric skirt design.
Lesson Steps:
- Traced the fitted skirt block onto paper, marking key lines like center front, side seams, darts etc.
- Shortened the skirt length by 11 cm above the knee line
- Dropped the waistline by 1 inch
- On the front skirt piece, marked a line from the side towards center front where the asymmetric flare will start
- Extended that line straight down to the new hemline to create the asymmetric flare
- Transferred the back skirt piece, closing darts and marking new waistline
- Separated the back piece at center back to mirror and draft the other side
