In this lesson, I taught us how to draft both straight and curved waistbands for skirts. I explained the difference between the two types and when to use each one.
Straight waistbands are suitable when the skirt sits at the natural waistline, while curved waistbands are used for dropped waist designs. I demonstrated drafting both types of waistbands on two different skirt patterns.
Lesson Steps:
- Understand the purpose of straight and curved waistbands
- For straight waistbands:
- Suitable for skirts that hit at the natural waistline
- Width should be 2.5-8 cm (1-3 inches)
- Wider widths may work if the waist is straight
- For curved waistbands:
- Used for dropped waist or lower waist designs
- Follows the curved waistline shape
- Draft the waistband pattern pieces for both skirt styles
- Neda demonstrated on a tailored skirt block and relaxed skirt pattern
