In this lesson, I taught how to draft a pattern for a flared skirt with an extended side panel. We went through the steps of separating the front and back skirt pieces, measuring for the flared side panel, and creating that half-circle panel to be attached.
Lesson Steps:
- Separated the front and back skirt pieces, adding seam allowances
- Measured the waist and desired lengths for the front, back and side flare pieces
- Drafted the half-circle flared side panel using calculations based on the waist measurement
- Trued all the seams to ensure the pieces would match up correctly
- Drafted the lining pieces for the front and back skirt, leaving the lining slightly shorter than the outer fabric
- Added all pattern markings like grainlines, notches, zipper length etc.
