In this session, I taught how to properly fit a skirt pattern to achieve the desired fit. I demonstrated the process using a muslin sample and a dress form.
Lesson Steps:
- Assess the initial fit of the muslin skirt on the dress form or your body
- Identify areas that need adjustment (waist, hips, darts)
- Pin the muslin skirt to achieve the desired fit, marking the adjustments needed
- For the waist area, pin until the skirt fits comfortably around the waistline
- For the hips, pin the sides to remove excess ease and create a straighter line
- Adjust the darts by pinning and spreading the intake amount across the existing darts
- Mark the pinned areas on the muslin, noting the amount of adjustment needed
- Transfer these markings and measurements to the paper pattern for a proper fit
