In this session, I taught how to adjust a basic skirt pattern to achieve the perfect fit around the hips and waist. I demonstrated techniques for taking in or letting out the pattern at specific areas for a customized fit.

I showed how to mark the necessary adjustments directly on a muslin or existing skirt, then transfer those changes to create an updated pattern piece. This allows for tweaking the fit without starting from scratch.

Lesson Steps:

  • Mark the hip rise and balance lines on the muslin/skirt
  • Determine if darts need to be made larger/smaller at waist for fit
  • Indicate how much to take in/let out at side seams below hip
  • If adding significant ease, cut pattern and insert paper at sides
  • For small adjustments, draw new seamlines directly on pattern
  • Transfer updated lines to fresh pattern paper to create new pattern
  • Maintain original lengths like center front/back when redrawing
