Dress Project: Nicole

3 hrs 45 mins

Welcome to The Nicole Dress Project!

In this course, I’ll guide you through creating an elegant draped dress using advanced draping and dressmaking techniques. The Nicole dress features a sophisticated bodice with a graceful neckline, carefully constructed shoulder details, and a beautifully draped skirt that creates stunning movement while maintaining a sleek silhouette.

Throughout this project, you’ll learn essential high-end dressmaking skills including creative draping techniques, pattern transfer methods, working with luxury fabrics like silk, and professional construction techniques. We’ll cover everything from initial draping and pattern development to final construction details like French seams, hidden support structures, and clean finishing methods.

This project is perfect for intermediate to advanced sewists who want to elevate their dressmaking skills. You’ll need approximately 3 yards of main fabric (recommended: silk crepe back satin or similar draping fabric), lining fabric, basic sewing supplies, and a dress form padded to your measurements. Additional materials include pattern paper, marking tools, silk pins, and a zipper.

By the end of this course, you’ll have mastered:

  • Creative draping techniques for achieving elegant drape effects
  • Pattern transfer methods for complex draped designs
  • Working with delicate silk fabrics
  • Professional bodice construction with clean finishes
  • Hidden support techniques for maintaining drape
  • Advanced fitting and adjustment methods

Each lesson builds upon the previous one, taking you from initial concept through to a beautifully finished garment. Let’s begin creating your Nicole dress!
