I demonstrate the construction process for assembling a lined bodice and attaching it to the skirt.

I show how to work with both fashion fabric and lining, explaining my preferred order of construction to achieve clean finishes, particularly around narrow shoulder areas.

I detail techniques for working with delicate silk fabrics while maintaining professional finishing standards.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Assemble fashion fabric bodice pieces at side seams
  2. Construct lining pieces, making them slightly smaller at neckline
  3. Join fashion fabric to lining at neckline and armholes
  4. Create and attach narrow shoulder straps
  5. Press seams appropriately based on fabric type
  6. Construct skirt with French seams for clean finish
  7. Press seams properly – flat for some areas, open for others
  8. Match notches between bodice and skirt pieces
  9. Attach bodice to skirt, working from center front to back
  10. Leave back seam open for zipper insertion
  11. Check fit and alignment of all pieces
  12. Prepare back opening for zipper installation

The key to success with this construction is patience and precision, especially when working with silk fabrics. Remember that proper pressing techniques and careful handling will ensure professional results in your finished garment.
