In this lesson, I taught how to drape a sleeve without any prior shaping on the fabric. I demonstrated the process of shaping the sleeve around the body, deciding on the desired ease and fullness.
We started with an unshaped fabric piece and shaped it around the body to create a sleeve. I showed how to add ease, adjust the crown height, and ensure a proper fit around the shoulder and armhole.
Lesson Steps:
- Pin the top of the sleeve to the shoulder point
- Decide if you need to add more ease at the top of the crown for a broader shoulder
- Ease in the sleeve fabric around the armhole, using basting stitches if needed
- Adjust the sleeve cap height by adding or removing fabric at the crown
- Redraw the new shoulder line and sleeve cap shape
- Transfer the draped sleeve onto a paper pattern piece
- Ensure the sleeve pattern matches your bodice sloper for a perfect fit
- Neda will demonstrate how to modify this basic sleeve into different styles like raglan in future lessons
