In this lesson, I taught how to create a puffed cap sleeve design by modifying a basic sleeve pattern. I demonstrated the steps to add volume and gathering at the top of the sleeve while keeping it short.

I showed how to transform a basic sleeve pattern into a puffed cap sleeve design by spreading the top portion and adding gathering. I trimmed the sleeve cap for a rounder shape and adjusted the sleeve length to create a short, voluminous sleeve.

Lesson Steps:

  • Mark the desired sleeve length slightly below the underarm
  • Trim the sleeve cap for a rounder shape
  • Spread the top portion of the sleeve to create room for gathering
  • Blend the sleeve lines using a curve ruler, maintaining the notches
  • Add seam allowance and notches
  • Baste or pin the sleeve cap for gathering
  • Adjust the gathering amount as desired
  • Option to add a button or tuck at the sleeve hem for a tighter fit
  • Modify the sleeve curve or add more spreading for increased puffiness

I demonstrated the process step-by-step, allowing for adjustments and customization to achieve the desired puffed cap sleeve look.
