In this session, I demonstrate how to transform our draped skirt piece into a precise paper pattern with professional finishes.

I show how to properly transfer the drape while maintaining the flow and fit of our original design, emphasizing key techniques for working with stretch fabrics.

I detail the importance of matching reference points between the bodice and skirt pieces to ensure proper construction.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Transfer draped piece to pattern paper, aligning grainlines
  2. Mark essential reference points (A, B, C) for construction
  3. Establish center front and back lines on pattern
  4. Add length measurements from reference points
  5. Create symmetrical pattern by folding on centerline
  6. Verify and adjust measurements against dress form
  7. Mark notches for bust point alignment
  8. Transfer and true side seam measurements
  9. Add waist markings and verify back measurements
  10. Create curved hemline with upward front, downward back
  11. Add seam allowances to pattern edges
  12. Mark zipper placement from waist
  13. Add construction notches at key joining points
  14. Verify grain lines and cutting instructions
  15. Double-check all measurements and markings

The key to success with this pattern is maintaining accuracy in your reference points while allowing for the natural drape of your chosen fabric. Remember that different fabrics may require slight adjustments to achieve the same silhouette.
