I demonstrate how to cut and assemble a skirt block muslin, then fit it on a dress form.

I cover important steps such as placing the pattern on the fabric, marking darts, notching, and preparing the pieces for sewing, all while explaining the reasoning behind each technique.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Place the pattern on folded muslin fabric, aligning center front on the fold.
  2. Cut out the pattern pieces using a blade or scissors.
  3. Mark darts using an awl, extending the mark slightly beyond the dart point.
  4. Notch the dart legs for easier folding and sewing.
  5. Mark the hip line and double notch the center back for identification.
  6. Cut the second piece on a separate fabric section.
  7. Prepare all pieces for assembly and fitting on the dress form.
