In this lesson, I taught how to drape an oversized shirt using a bust band and releasing folds to create the desired oversized silhouette. I demonstrated the steps on a dress form, marking key points and adjusting the fabric as needed.
I showed how to drape an oversized shirt by adding a bust band, releasing folds at the armholes and sides, and adjusting the neckline for a relaxed fit. The key was marking reference points and gradually releasing fabric to achieve the desired oversized look.
Lesson Steps:
- Add a 2-inch straight bust band across the front, folding and stretching it from side to side
- Mark the bust line and apex if desired, but avoid stretchy fabrics for the band
- Lay the front bodice piece flat, curving the neckline slightly
- Pin at center front, neckline, shoulders, following markings if using a block
- Release a small dart at the side if needed for extra oversizing
- Drop the neckline slightly if desired for a more relaxed fit
- Mark 3 inches below the underarm for the desired dropped armhole
- Lay the back piece similarly, aligning markings and pinning shoulders/center back
- Release folds at armholes and sides to create oversized silhouette
- Adjust as needed, pinning together the released folds
- Assess the oversized look and make any final adjustments
