In this session, I taught how to drape an oversized shirt and make design decisions like adding sleeves, pockets, and adjusting the neckline. We also explored options for shaping the waist area with darts or pleats.

Draping an oversized shirt requires some extra steps to create clean lines while maintaining the loose, flowy silhouette. I demonstrated adjusting the armhole size, deciding on sleeve styles, and considering design details like pockets and neckline variations.

Lesson Steps:

  • Adjust armhole size based on whether adding sleeves or not
  • Decide on sleeve style – relaxed, fitted, puffed, etc.
  • Consider adding design details like pockets, pleats, or darts
  • Adjust neckline as desired – convertible collar, v-neck, etc.
  • Determine hem length at front and back
  • Mark any pleats, darts or gathers to transfer to pattern
  • Baste seams and check fit on dress form before finalizing pattern
