In this lesson, I taught how to draft the sleeve pattern for the oversized top blouse, including adjustments for a dropped shoulder and adding gathering or pleats to the sleeve.
Lesson Steps:
- Measure the front and back armhole lengths from the shoulder point to the side seam
- Trace the sleeve foundation pattern, dropping it down by 2 inches for the dropped shoulder
- Extend the underarm sleeve seam outwards to accommodate the larger armhole circumference
- Mark the measured armhole lengths from the sleeve cap along the front and back sleeve seams
- Add a slight curve to the sleeve cap for easier attachment to the armhole
- Decide on the desired sleeve length (e.g., full length, elbow length with cuff, etc.)
- To add gathering/pleats, divide the sleeve into sections and spread them apart, adding desired ease
- Smooth the sleeve cap curve and adjust the sleeve hem accordingly
- Add seam allowances as needed, such as for elastic casing at the hem
