In this session, I taught how to cover the padded dress form with thin fusible interfacing to create a smooth shell before draping the final fabric over it.
I demonstrated cutting and fusing long strips of interfacing around the dress form, overlapping and shaping them neatly over the curves.
Lesson Steps:
- Cut 12-15 strips of thin, non-woven fusible interfacing 5-6 inches wide and long enough to wrap around the dress form
- Use an iron with steam to fuse the strips onto the padded dress form, starting from the center front
- Overlap strips by 1-2 inches, cutting and shaping as needed to lay flat over curves
- Pay extra attention to smoothly cover the bust area on a full bust form
- Work methodically from shoulders down to the sides and back
- Overlap and layer strips as required to eliminate wrinkles and create a smooth surface
- Ensure all areas are cleanly covered with no loose edges before proceeding
