In this lesson, we prepare our dress form for draping by taping style lines according to our design.
I demonstrated how to use graphic tape to create the neckline, princess lines, and other key elements of the dress on the form. This process helps visualize the design and allows for adjustments before starting the actual draping process.
Lesson Steps:
- Set up the padded dress form with foundation lines
- Gather graphic tape for creating style lines
- Tape the V-neckline, considering bust size and comfort
- Add thin straps to the neckline
- Create the armhole princess line, shaping it for a flattering look
- Mark the side seam and back seam
- Indicate the skirt’s envelope shape and where pleats will be
- Step back and evaluate the taped design, using a mirror or photos
- Adjust style lines as needed for the most flattering look
- Prepare to drape in sections: center front, side front, center back, and back side
- Plan for seven pattern pieces total (front on fold)
- Get ready to start the actual draping process
