In this session, I taught how to sew the bodice of the dress, including attaching the lining to the outer fabric and adding straps. I emphasized being careful not to stretch the bias-cut pieces while sewing.

I sewed the front and side princess seams of the bodice outer fabric and lining separately. Then I attached the lining to the outer fabric at the neckline, leaving the back open. I added thin stay tapes to stabilize the neckline edges before sewing the lining and outer fabric together. Finally, I made and attached the straps.

Lesson Steps:

  • Sew front and side princess seams of outer bodice pieces
  • Sew front and side princess seams of lining pieces
  • Attach lining to outer bodice at neckline, leaving back open
  • Add thin stay tapes to neckline edges to prevent stretching
  • Sew lining to outer bodice along neckline
  • Make straps from bias strips
  • Attach straps to bodice corners
  • Edgestitch lining to outer fabric seam allowances
