In this session, I taught how to drape the lining for the Freya dress project.

I decided to create a lightweight and breathable lining to maintain the spring/summer feel of the dress while still providing structure.

I demonstrated draping the fitted lining for the bodice, creating darts and adjustments to achieve the desired fit. For the skirt lining, I plan to use the same pattern pieces as the dress skirt to create volume without added weight.

Lesson Steps:

  • Prepared the dress form with shoulder pads and bust cups from the dress muslin
  • Draped the front lining muslin, creating a narrow V-neckline and darts at bust and waist
  • Adjusted darts and side seams for a smooth, fitted look
  • Marked important lines like center front, side seams, darts, and bust/waist lines
  • Discussed options for more structured lining with boning if desired
  • Transferred markings from the draped muslin onto paper patterns
  • Cross-checked patterns against the dress muslin for accuracy
