In this session, I discussed designing a structured cocktail dress with added volume and drama. The dress will be made from silk taffeta with embroidery details, requiring careful construction to maintain the desired silhouette.

I discussed my inspiration for the dress design, aiming for a wearable yet dramatic look suitable for formal events. To achieve this, I planned to incorporate extra volume in the skirt and sleeves while maintaining structure through proper construction techniques.

Lesson Steps:

  • Explained the design concept of a cocktail dress with volume and structure
  • Highlighted the need for proper construction to hold the desired shape
  • Considered using additional stiff materials like organza between lining and outer fabric
  • Discussed taking inspiration from haute couture shows for artistic design elements
  • Mentioned adapting high-fashion concepts into more wearable, producible garments
  • Introduced the materials: silk taffeta fabric and embroidery details
  • Expressed concerns about the hand-sewing required for the embroidery work
  • Recommended having the twist dress pattern as a base to manipulate for this design
