In this session, I taught how to manipulate the twist dress pattern to create a peg skirt silhouette with puffed sleeves.

I demonstrated taking the basic twist dress pattern and modifying it to add volume at the hips and sleeves. This creates a peg skirt shape with a fuller top and slimmer hem.

Lesson Steps:

  • Traced the front bodice pattern piece onto fabric, leaving room to slash and spread
  • Cut along side seam and spread the pattern to create a curved shape for the peg skirt volume
  • Gathered the excess fabric at the waistline using an elastic casing
  • Added padding to the dress form at the hip area to mimic the desired peg shape
  • Draped and pinned the gathered skirt fabric over the padded form to set the peg silhouette
  • Discussed different fabric gathering vs pleating techniques for creating volume

I explained how combining flat patterning knowledge with draping skills allows for quickly manipulating designs and achieving specific silhouettes efficiently.

The twist dress is being transformed into a dramatic, voluminous style while maintaining the signature twist detail.
