In this session, I taught how to sew the top piece of the Charlie dress using an overlocker machine.

I was excited to use the overlocker for finishing an entire dress project!

I explained the pattern pieces and demonstrated sewing the straps, gathering the front neckline, attaching the straps, and constructing the top bodice lining and outer fabric.

Lesson Steps:

  • Sewed the straps with the overlocker, turning and pressing
  • Gathered the front neckline of the top and lining pieces
  • Sandwiched the strap between the top and lining at center front
  • Sewed center front of top/lining, inserting clear elastic tape
  • Sewed side seams of top/lining
  • Sewed armholes, leaving openings per notches
  • Turned bodice right side out and attached lining to openings
  • Prepared to fit the bodice on the dress form
