In this session, I taught how to create a controlled flare skirt with a flat center front and more flare towards the back.

The front will be flat, while the draping and flare start from the sides and increase towards the back.
This creates a unique look with fullness concentrated at the back.

Lesson Steps:

  • Marked the center front to keep it flat and folded a little for control
  • Created the first flare on the side by cutting and allowing the fabric to drape
  • Continued adding flares towards the back by cutting and draping the fabric
  • Adjusted the flare amounts at different points by pinning and releasing fabric
  • Ensured the side pieces were on the cross-grain to prevent stretching
  • Marked the center front, sides, and center back on the draped pieces
  • Prepared to transfer the draped pieces to a pattern for construction
