In this session, I taught how to create a controlled flare skirt with a flat center front and more flare towards the back.
The front will be flat, while the draping and flare start from the sides and increase towards the back.
This creates a unique look with fullness concentrated at the back.
Lesson Steps:
- Marked the center front to keep it flat and folded a little for control
- Created the first flare on the side by cutting and allowing the fabric to drape
- Continued adding flares towards the back by cutting and draping the fabric
- Adjusted the flare amounts at different points by pinning and releasing fabric
- Ensured the side pieces were on the cross-grain to prevent stretching
- Marked the center front, sides, and center back on the draped pieces
- Prepared to transfer the draped pieces to a pattern for construction
