In this session, I taught how to line the back of the Vionnet dress while maintaining a clean finish and allowing for stretch.
I explained different lining options like using decorative stitches, attaching the lining separately, or using a stretchy mesh fabric.
Lesson Steps:
- Evaluate fabric weight to determine lining method (avoid bulky seams for heavy fabrics)
- Consider using decorative stitches like merrow or purl edges for a clean finish
- Avoid stitching the lining and dress together at seams to maintain stretch
- Use a 4-way stretch mesh or jersey knit lining fabric
- Cut the lining fabric in one piece and stretch it around the dress
- Pin the lining at shoulders, armholes, and center back zipper area
- Sew or serge the lining side seams
- Hand-stitch the lining at neckline, armholes, and hem for a clean finish
