Welcome to the Alex Blush Dress Project!

Alex Blush is a stunning Halter top wedding or engagement dress featuring a deep V neckline, whimsical hand sewn floral lace and sheer bodice-inspired details. An effortless A-line silhouette is created by layers of tulle over a nude blush color base. You will feel comfortable all day long with the airy layers.

In this project video, you will learn:

how to drape and construct a halter top tulle bodice
How to turn your draped base sample into a pattern
Cut and sew nude color tulle into a halter top with an invisible center front extension
The placement and flow of lace appliques
Hand sew the lace appliques
How to cut layers of full circle tulles and sew them
How to layer tulles and secure them to create tulle circle skirt

Fabrics and Materials:

Soft, fair skin color, Italian tulle:
For Bodice< 1 yard
For Skirt < 5 yards

Soft Italian, off-white color tulle:
For skirt: each layer of full circle takes approx. 4-5 yards
(Blush Skirt has 5 layers of full circle tulle)

Flower embroidered bridal lace- 1 yard
(Choose laces that are easier to cut into appliques)

In this introductory lesson, I welcome students to the Online Fashion Workshop and provide an overview of the course, where you will learn how to create a wedding gown from scratch using the draping technique.

Design & Sketching the Look

In this lesson, I taught the process of designing and sketching a bridal gown with a nude blush undertone and a white embroidered tulle overlay. The gown features a transparent design with an open back halter top, a deep V-neckline, and a flowy, layered tulle skirt with a big A-line silhouette.

Lesson 3

Taping the Dress Form

How to tape the dress form with paper graphic tapes to create reference lines for draping. This step ensures that the draping process stays true to the intended design lines and makes the job easier, faster, and more accurate.

Lesson 4

Draping the Bodice

In this lesson, I start draping the first sample bodice using the actual fabric for the dress. I pin the fabric to the dress form, following the reference lines and ensuring a slight stretch to avoid bunching after removal.

Marking the Draped Bodice

How to mark the draping lines on the fabric without drawing directly on it. I prefer using contrasting thread to top stitch the lines instead of marking with a pen or pencil to avoid staining the delicate fabric.

Creating the Bodice Pattern

How to transfer the draped bodice onto paper to create the pattern. I show the steps to carefully pin the draped fabric onto the paper grid, then trace the stitching lines using a tracing wheel to mark the final pattern outline.
