In this lesson, I demonstrated how to cut a full skirt for a bridal gown on a smaller scale. I showed the process of cutting the front and back pieces that will be layered to create the full skirt with a train.

Lesson Steps:

  • Lay out fabric based on desired length for center front and sides
  • Fold fabric to create center front and side sections
  • Measure and mark 1/4 of waist circumference on the fold
  • Gradually mark and cut the curved shape from waist to floor length
  • For the back pieces, lay out two lengths of fabric
  • Mark waist circumference plus seam allowance
  • Gradually mark and cut curved shape from sides to longer center back for train
  • Repeat cutting process for each layer of the skirt
  • For top lace layer, cut waist slightly wider to allow for gathering
