In this session, I taught how to drape a dress with an interesting draped front detail.

The dress has a V-neckline in the front and a soft boatneck in the back. I demonstrated creating a tapered, draped look on the front by manipulating the fabric and pinning it in place.

I showed how to position the muslin fabric on the dress form, create the necklines, and then drape and pin the front piece to achieve a flattering, draped silhouette. The sides can be adjusted to create more or less tapering as desired.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin muslin in place at shoulders and create desired necklines
  • Clear fabric around armholes and chest, pinning to fit
  • Allow front piece to fall naturally, pinning sides to create a draped front
  • Adjust side pinning to increase or decrease front tapering
  • Mark reference points like bust, waist, hips, etc. on the draped front piece
  • Prepare to drape the back piece next
