In this session, I went over the different fabrics I’ll be using for a draped dress project – a viscose crepe back satin for the front and back, and a silk charmeuse for the facings and pockets.

I explained my reasoning for using the skin-toned charmeuse for areas like the neckline to avoid show-through.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pinned pattern pieces to fabric, being careful not to leave hole marks
  • Notched pattern at important points like center front, darts, zipper opening
  • Cut out front and back bodice pieces from the satin/crepe fabric
  • Cut out facings and pocket pieces from the charmeuse
  • Gathered necessary notions like stay tape, bias strips, hook & eye
  • Plan to use a mix of French seams, Hong Kong seams, and bias binding for clean finishes
