In this lesson, I taught how to adjust the skirt length and hemline for a draped dress.

I demonstrated the process on a dress form, marking the desired knee-length and making necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit.

Lesson Steps:

  • Decide on the desired skirt length (e.g., knee-length)
  • Use a dress form with a skirt cage to identify the knee-length mark, or measure from the waist down for your body measurements
  • Mark the knee-length on the back, sides, and front of the draped skirt pieces
  • Adjust the side seams if they appear tilted or shifted, pinning them in the correct position
  • Make any necessary corrections with a contrasting color pen or pencil
  • Once adjustments are made, separate the front and back pieces to transfer the pattern onto paper
