In this lesson, I demonstrate how to drape a basic bodice with a single waist dart on a dress form. I start by preparing the muslin fabric and marking important reference lines like the bust line and center front.

I show the step-by-step process of draping the front and back bodice pieces, creating darts to shape the fabric around the curves, and marking all the necessary points and lines to transfer the draped muslin into a pattern later.

Lesson Steps:

  • Prepare the muslin fabric and mark reference lines
  • Drape the front bodice piece and create a single waist dart
  • Drape the back bodice piece and create shoulder and waist darts
  • Mark all important points like apex, shoulders, neckline on both pieces
  • Release seams and pin front and back pieces together at side seams
  • Add ease if needed around waist, neck, and armholes for comfort
  • Get ready to transfer the draped pieces into a paper pattern
