In this lesson, I taught how to transfer a curved bodice draped piece to a paper pattern. I demonstrated the process of tracing the pattern, making necessary adjustments, and creating a curved French dart. This lesson focused on advanced patternmaking techniques for a more complex bodice design.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Transfer the draped piece to dot paper, aligning with the grid
  2. Trace key points and lines, including center front, waistline, neckline, and side seam
  3. Draw straight lines and add 90-degree corners where needed
  4. Use a curved ruler to accurately trace curved lines
  5. Cut and test the pattern piece to check for accuracy
  6. Make adjustments to the dart placement and shape
  7. Measure and compare the upper and lower curved dart lines
  8. Blend lines and smooth out curves
  9. Add seam allowances to the pattern
  10. Label the pattern piece with size and cutting instructions

Remember, this is an advanced technique that may require practice and patience. Don’t be discouraged if it seems challenging at first – with time and experience, you’ll become more confident in creating complex patterns like this curved French dart bodice.
