In this lesson, I taught the process of draping a French dart on a dress form. I covered the importance of reference lines, preparing the muslin, and the step-by-step process of pinning and shaping the fabric to create a French dart silhouette. I also demonstrated how to mark important lines and transfer the drape to a pattern piece.
Lesson Steps:
- Prepare the dress form with reference lines
- Prepare and mark the muslin fabric
- Pin the muslin to the dress form, starting at center front and bust line
- Smooth and pin around neckline and shoulders
- Make small cuts to release tension where needed
- Pin at underarm and side seam
- Shape the fabric around the waistline
- Create and pin the French dart
- Mark important lines on the muslin (center front, bust line, neckline, etc.)
- Transfer the draped piece onto a pattern
