In this lesson, I taught the process of draping a French dart on a dress form. I covered the importance of reference lines, preparing the muslin, and the step-by-step process of pinning and shaping the fabric to create a French dart silhouette. I also demonstrated how to mark important lines and transfer the drape to a pattern piece.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Prepare the dress form with reference lines
  2. Prepare and mark the muslin fabric
  3. Pin the muslin to the dress form, starting at center front and bust line
  4. Smooth and pin around neckline and shoulders
  5. Make small cuts to release tension where needed
  6. Pin at underarm and side seam
  7. Shape the fabric around the waistline
  8. Create and pin the French dart
  9. Mark important lines on the muslin (center front, bust line, neckline, etc.)
  10. Transfer the draped piece onto a pattern
