In this lesson, I taught how to create a shoulder dart in a bodice pattern. I demonstrated the process of drafting the new pattern lines, adjusting the armhole and neckline, and folding the dart. I also showed how to handle excess fabric in large darts and how to match the front and back bodice pieces.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Draft new pattern lines following the red lines on the original pattern
  2. Mark key points like center front, waistline, bustline, and apex
  3. Draw the shoulder dart and adjust the armhole
  4. Cut out the pattern piece and fold the dart
  5. Trim excess fabric from large darts if necessary
  6. Clean up the armhole and neckline
  7. Match the front bodice to the back bodice piece
  8. Adjust the shoulder line if needed
  9. Add seam allowances to the pattern
  10. Mark important information on the pattern piece
  11. Cut out the final pattern piece, leaving the dart slightly open at the end
