In this lesson, I taught how to create a shoulder dart in a bodice pattern. I demonstrated the process of drafting the new pattern lines, adjusting the armhole and neckline, and folding the dart. I also showed how to handle excess fabric in large darts and how to match the front and back bodice pieces.
Lesson Steps:
- Draft new pattern lines following the red lines on the original pattern
- Mark key points like center front, waistline, bustline, and apex
- Draw the shoulder dart and adjust the armhole
- Cut out the pattern piece and fold the dart
- Trim excess fabric from large darts if necessary
- Clean up the armhole and neckline
- Match the front bodice to the back bodice piece
- Adjust the shoulder line if needed
- Add seam allowances to the pattern
- Mark important information on the pattern piece
- Cut out the final pattern piece, leaving the dart slightly open at the end
