In this lesson, I taught how to drape a basic bodice with two darts – one at the waistline and another at the bust line. This method is especially helpful for those with a fuller bust and smaller waist, as it distributes the excess fabric into two separate darts for a better fit.

I started with a muslin fabric pinned at the center front, bust line, and waistline. Then, I created the first dart at the waistline by smoothing excess fabric towards the princess line. For the bust dart, excess fabric was gathered towards the armhole and folded along the bust line marking.

Lesson Steps:

  • Pin muslin at center front, bust line, and waistline
  • Create waistline dart by smoothing excess towards princess line
  • For bust dart, gather excess fabric towards armhole
  • Fold along bust line marking to form bust dart
  • Mark darts, center front, neckline, shoulders, armholes
  • Attach front and back bodice pieces together

This method allows for a better fit by dividing the excess fabric into two separate darts instead of one large dart. It’s especially beneficial for those with a fuller bust and defined waistline.
