In this lesson, I taught how to create a puffed cap sleeve from a basic sleeve pattern. I demonstrated how to modify the pattern, add volume, and create gathers for a cute, short sleeve with a slight puff at the top.

Lesson Steps:

  1. Transfer the basic sleeve pattern to the elbow length
  2. Mark the desired sleeve length (just below the cap)
  3. Adjust the underarm area for a snugger fit
  4. Trim the top of the sleeve to create a rounder shape
  5. Create spread lines on the pattern for volume
  6. Open up the center to the zero point at the bottom
  7. Spread the pattern pieces to add volume
  8. Blend the new lines using a curve ruler
  9. Add seam allowances and notches
  10. Cut out the new pattern and prepare for fitting
  11. Pin and gather the sleeve to the bodice
  12. Try on and make adjustments as needed
  13. Consider adding a button or creating a small tuck at the bottom for ease of wear
  14. Make final adjustments to the pattern based on the fitting
