In this lesson, I taught how to transfer a draped sleeve to a pattern and create a basic sleeve sloper. I demonstrated the differences between the paper pattern and the draped piece, and explained how to adjust the sleeve curve for different effects.
Lesson Steps:
- Transfer the draped sleeve to paper, comparing it with the initial paper pattern
- Decide on the desired curve at the top of the sleeve (with or without extra ease)
- Double-check the pattern against the bodice sloper
- Transfer the pattern to a new paper for the final sloper
- Add sleeve notches, including front and back indicators
- Mark underarm and bicep points on the pattern
- Discuss options for straightening the sleeve or keeping it slightly curved
- Demonstrate how to adjust the sleeve for different fabric types and styles
- Prepare to show different types of sleeves without adding seam allowances yet
