In this lesson, I taught how to transfer a draped sleeve to a pattern and create a basic sleeve sloper. I demonstrated the differences between the paper pattern and the draped piece, and explained how to adjust the sleeve curve for different effects.

Lesson Steps:

  • Transfer the draped sleeve to paper, comparing it with the initial paper pattern
  • Decide on the desired curve at the top of the sleeve (with or without extra ease)
  • Double-check the pattern against the bodice sloper
  • Transfer the pattern to a new paper for the final sloper
  • Add sleeve notches, including front and back indicators
  • Mark underarm and bicep points on the pattern
  • Discuss options for straightening the sleeve or keeping it slightly curved
  • Demonstrate how to adjust the sleeve for different fabric types and styles
  • Prepare to show different types of sleeves without adding seam allowances yet
