In this session, I demonstrated how to measure and prepare the boning pieces for the corset project. I showed the top shell and lining pieces, explaining the need for the lining to be slightly smaller than the outer fabric.

Lesson Steps:

  • Measure and mark the lengths needed for center front, side, and back boning pieces on the lining
  • Cut plastic boning pieces to the marked lengths
  • Melt/burn the ends of the boning slightly to prevent fraying
  • Cover the boning ends with small pieces of interfacing, fusing or stitching them in place
  • Organize and keep the cut boning pieces separated by their placement (center front, side, back)
  • Position the curve of the boning to follow the body’s curves when sewing
  • Optional: Add diagonal boning between side and center front for extra bust support
